Beautiful landscapes
Cherpa Walking Holidays are about enjoying the fresh air, the company and walking in one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Dordogne. The Dordogne is perfect for a walking holiday The area offers a diversity of landscapes from dramatic cliffs to undulating valleys and hills. As you walk you are constantly rewarded with an ever changing landscape. Adding to the allure is a colourful history. The landscape is dominated by impressive châteaux above imposing cliffs where one can imagine the clash of armour as French and English knights battled for supremacy during the Hundred Years War. Many of our walks start from quaint little villages built from ochre coloured stone with stone lauze roofs. There is a pervading sense of history as these villages look as if they haven't come alive since the Middle Ages. The walks will be at a leisurely pace in order to appreciate the fascinating history and scenery the area has to offer. Our itinerary has been devised for clients who are able to walk between 5 or 6 miles per day. Each day's activities will involve a walk, picnic stop and a feature of interest for the day such as exploring La Roque St-Christophe. La Roque St-Christophe is an enormous cliff which rises to a peak above the river Vésère which has five levels of natural caves which were occupied by cave dwellers. In medieval times it became a fortress and protected town.
