The Dordogne is known for its fine food and wines. As one of the most important gastronomic regions of France its traditional fare are duck, goose, truffles, mushrooms, walnuts and fruits such as strawberries, raspberries and cherries. The region around Bordeaux is one of the world's greatest wine producing areas. Enjoy the local specialties such as rich pates, succulent duck and fresh salads doused in the local walnut oil as well as some fine old world wines. Local culinary traditions reflect the fertile lush countryside which have been lovingly passed down for generations. Dishes are often made with fine goose or duck fat and flavoured with garlic and fine herbs. Foie Gras is one speciality not to be missed. Vegetarians can indulge themselves with the renowned Périgord black truffles and excellent goat's cheese.
