Valley of the Vésère
Walk in the footsteps of ancient man. This is the land where European history began. The valley of the river Vésère is known as the Valley of Man and is home to the greatest concentration of prehistoric sites in Europe. It was here that the first evidence of prehistoric man was found under the steep limestone cliffs, caves and shelters along the river bank. The earliest inhabitants the Neandertals and later Cro Magnons used rough flint and stone tools to carve out their dwellings and to make incredibly artistic cave paintings depicting the animals they hunted and their way of life over 10,000 years ago. Allow us to take you back in time and walk in this fascinating landscape.
